They say that writers should always carry a notebook around wherever they go, just in case inspiration strikes.
Well I love notebooks; they make me feel like writing. I love the quality of the paper, the scrape of the pen as it slides across the pages. I love the shape of the words against the crisp blank paper.
Since I’ve been writing this blog I’ve been keeping notes in a cute little book I bought from Accessorize. It doesn’t matter if all I’m doing is jotting down a few words; it makes me feel like a writer.
I’ve got tons of notebooks, all with pretty and striking covers. Some of them are used as diaries, although I’m terrible at keeping up with them. I’ve got a big A4 notebook with a soft suede cover that I write notes in each time I start on a new story. I sometimes even write my opening chapters in it. When I’m feeling a blocked, or struggling to get started, the act of writing – rather than typing away on a computer – makes me feel inspired.
Sometimes using a computer to write feels too much like work, writing by hand in a notebook is pure pleasure.
