This week has been an exciting one in Casa de Dreams. Having a blog is still quite new to me, although it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while. But this week it feels like a few things have clicked into place and my plan for the blog has grown massively.
I’ve mentioned the Rock ‘n’ Roll Bride website a couple of times in previous posts, as it’s been a big inspiration for me, both when I was planning my wedding and when I was thinking about how my blog would work. Well, Kat, the rock ‘n’ roll bride herself, has teamed up with a couple of other well-known bloggers – Gala Darling and Nubby Twiglet – to form the Blogcademy, a weekend long workshop that aims to teach attendees how to improve their blogs and make them pop (in the funky sense, not the exploding computer sense!)
The next workshop is coming up in January in London and little ol’ me managed to book a place. I’ve been running around the house shrieking with excitement ever since!
I can’t wait to head off on a mini-adventure down to London and meet up with the 29 other aspiring bloggers, not to mention the Blogcademy ladies. I’m hoping to pick up some new skills, improve my website and plan for the future – hopefully where I run my blog as a business alongside working as a novelist.
Also this week, I’ve been thinking about branding the blog. At the moment, the site is fairly basic, but I’d like to make it a bit more interesting and build Ten Penny Dreams as a brand. So I’ve started by working on a logo.
I work in marketing and do quite a bit of graphic design – I’m no professional, but I do know my way around InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. So I thought I would give designing my own logo a try and see what I could come up with, before thinking about commissioning a proper designer.
It’s not perfect, but I’m kinda happy with what I’ve produced, so I’ll be experimenting with it on the blog soon.
I’m really looking forward to improving Ten Penny Dreams and hopefully you’ll all come along for the ride!

Good luck with your branding and designing! It’s so cool that you have the skills to design your logo yourself 🙂 With January in mind I’ve been inspired to amp up my blog as well! See you soon 🙂

Thanks for the post Xandra, we’ll see how the branding experiment turns out! This lil’ blog has got a long way to go before Blogcademy; have to seriously up my game after checking out some of the other girls’ blogs – including yours! x
