About a year ago, I was busy planning my wedding and spending a lot of time online reading industry blogs and looking for inspiration and ideas. During my web wanderings, I came across the stop-motion wedding video and fell instantly in love.
I’d never been keen on the idea of hiring a videographer to document my wedding day; it always seemed a bit of an unnecessary extravagance. But the work of New Zealand photographers Bayly & Moore really changed my perceptions.
They use stop-motion to create their videos, which, for the uninitiated, means they use hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs to give the illusion of movement on film. Combined with a beautifully chosen soundtrack, their videos are little nuggets of whimsical wedding magic – cute, striking and original.
My personal favourite is the wedding of Sarah and Ben, who eloped to a ruined Scottish castle (video below). This video also introduced me to the band Efterklang and I had this song as part of my own wedding day soundtrack!

Earlier this week I also came across another stop-motion masterpiece – a music video composed entirely of Instagram photos. Mexican indie rockers, The Plastics Revolution, created the video for their song Invasión using 1,905 images.
It isn’t the first time someone has used Instagram for their music video; singer Ellie Goulding used images from her fans for the Anything Could Happen video earlier this year.
I’d love to be able to create my own stop-motion film and there are some useful tutorials on the internet, plus you can even download free apps to help you create a basic version.
