This week, I’ve done a lot of thinking about social media and how it complements the blog. I’ve got a few plans for expanding my social media presence, so watch this space.
A big part of my day job involves looking after my company’s online profiles. I like to read a few of the popular social media blogs like Mashable, as there are often interesting and useful articles about the latest tips and trends in the online world. I also find LinkedIn a good place to come across interesting content that has been shared by others.
Facebook has always been one of the most useful social media tools for business. But recent changes mean that your updates might not be appearing quite as frequently in your followers’ News Feeds. The reason for this is the Edgerank software. It scans the levels of engagement between your Facebook page and your followers and judges whether or not to display your status updates to each follower. Those that are most engaged will see the most updates. However, you can adjust your settings to maximise the updates you receive – here’s how.
Google Analytics is essential for any budding or established blogger. To get the most out of your feedback, set up a custom report to monitor your social media traffic. The more information you have about who is visiting your website and which sites are referring them, the more you can maximise your presence on the sites that work best for you.
And finally, check out these Instagram accounts from users in remote and unusual locations, all of whom post stunning photos of the places they live in.
