When it comes to Pinterest, I’m a newbie; I only recently signed up for an account. I’ve always thought that it looked like a brilliant platform but as I’m a writer and don’t take many of my own photographs, I didn’t feel it was the right fit for me. I was also concerned about copyright issues and didn’t want to fall foul of the law for pinning the wrong person’s images.
But things have changed in recent months. The ‘Pin it’ share button is now everywhere on the internet and its presence implies that the website owner is happy to have their content posted on Pinterest. And why wouldn’t they be, when research has shown that Pinterest drives more sales than Facebook and more traffic than Twitter.
I’ve also realised that I don’t need to be a photographer to be on Pinterest, although I am planning to take a lot more pictures in future.
Of all the social networks I’ve used, so far Pinterest is one of the most enjoyable. It’s great for anyone creative because it’s all about inspiration. Whether you love looking at photographs of stunning landscapes, interior design or prints of inspirational quotes, there is so much to discover and drool over.Creating themed boards full of content is also a great way of supporting project work, whether personal or professional. A lot of designers get excited when a client is on Pinterest, because a look at their boards is like sneaking a look into their mind. It’s also ideal for those planning a wedding, decorating their homes or searching for ideas for their next tattoo or hairstyle.
At times, social media can be a difficult place to be. You might have to deal with negative comments or trolling, the latest worldwide disaster, or even jealousy at your friends’ most recent status updates. But in the land of Pinterest, it’s all about sharing beautiful stuff.
And as social media becomes more about iconic imagery, Pinterest is the place to be.
