A couple of weeks ago I was invited to attend Wear Your Sunday Best, a vintage fashion show running as part of Newcastle Fashion Week. The event was the brainchild of Pearman Photography, ND Make Up Artists and The House of Seduction, after they worked together back in February. Each business has a love for vintage style and the ladies wanted to use this opportunity to showcase their skills and expertise.
I met Laura from Pearman Photography earlier this year when she invited me to her studio for a 1940s pin-up shoot and I was eager to see what her latest project was all about.
Best described as a ‘shoot-show’, Wear Your Sunday Best was a fusion of catwalk show and photo shoot. As the models strutted their stuff down the red carpet, wearing a selection of gorgeous vintage lingerie and swimwear from The House of Seduction, Laura snapped away. Her photos were then beamed up on screen as part of the show.
The event took place at The Old Post Office on Pink Lane, a gorgeous little venue perfectly suited for the evening’s vintage theme. We were greeted at the door by a mini red carpet and ropes, before heading into the charmingly styled catwalk space, which included handmade cupcakes, cider in vintage china and cute little favours.
Attending a fashion show was a new experience for me and our front row seats gave us a good view as the models emerged on to the red carpet. With a great soundtrack playing, they shimmied through several costume changes, posed and pouted and even shared a few 40s style dance moves.
I’m told several of the models were burlesque dancers and I was impressed by their confidence. It was also great to see that the girls had different looks and brought a bit of individuality to the catwalk.
A whole host of local businesses got involved in the event, providing their services for free. They included:
· Hexham Scaffolding Co · Project North East · SCD Flooring · The Whole Sch-Bang ·
· Northern Prop Hire · Emma Bunting · Oil Lamp Productions · Brighter Light and Sound ·
· Cake My Day · Ruby’s Tea Party ·
Not to mention the models, student volunteers and vocal harmony group, Scarlet Street, who performed at the end of the show.
Please note: I received free tickets for this event, but all opinions here are my own.
