Over the last month I’ve been working on a project; I’ve been out and about in my hometown of Middlesbrough, taking photographs and posting them on Instagram.
Anyone who comes from the Boro knows that when most people think of our town, they conjure up images of cooling towers and chemical plants, industry and run down housing estates. But there is so much more to Middlesbrough. Instead, I wanted to focus on some of the better places: the parks, the artworks and the architecture.
I’ve included landscapes and detail shots, which are always my favourite types of photo on Instagram.
There are pictures of some of Middlesbrough’s most famous landmarks, including the Transporter Bridge, the Temenos sculpture by Anish Kapoor and the Bottle of Notes by Claes Oldenburg.
I enjoy spending time outdoors, so it seemed natural to include several photos that were taken in one of my favourite places, Stewart Park. With its mini zoo, museum and leafy pathways, the park is great for family days out. But don’t overlook our other green spaces, which include Fairy Dell and Teesaurus Park, both also featured below.
Focusing on photography for the last month has been a lot of fun and I hope to do a lot more in the future!
