So the big celebrity story this week is the birth of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby daughter, who they have apparently decided to name North West, or Nori for short.
I use the word apparently, because as I write this the story hasn’t been officially confirmed and I’m still not 100% convinced of its accuracy! I don’t want to look like a complete fool if it turns out her name is Barbara or something.
But anyway, the rumour got me thinking about some of the other unique names that I’ve come across in the news over the years.
Number 16 Bus Shelter
I think this one might be taking the Brooklyn Beckham effect a bit too far…
Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii
A judge in New Zealand actually went so far as to make the nine-year-old owner of this name a ward of the court so that she could change it to something else.
Wonderful Terrific Monds the Third
An American baseball player who once played for Durham Bulls. Supposedly his grandfather was first given the name after his father was so thrilled to have a son after several daughters and declared it, “Wonderful, Terrific.”
Audio Science
The son of actress Shannon Sossamon, who chose the moniker because she and her partner wanted a word rather than a name.
Twins ‘Benson’ and ‘Hedges’
Yep.
And apparently Swedish authorities rejected the name ‘Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116’ (somehow pronounced Albin), which was proposed in the Nineties in protest against a change in the country’s naming law. Sweden does, however, have a child called Google and one called Lego.

It’s funny you write this – I showed some of these names to my tutor group last week! Also looked it up, treat (tret) is dialect!

See, the perfect excuse for non-grammatically correct words! 😉
