When it comes to blogging, people have differing views about how much personal information they should share.
Some bloggers share every detail of their lives: where they live, what they’ve been doing, who they spend time with, plus endless photos of them and their families.
In contrast, others prefer to remain anonymous. And of course, there are all the shades of grey in between.
I’ve always been reluctant to share too much detail, but just for today I thought I’d let you in on a few little random facts about me. You know, just for context.
- At university, I took a course in Mandarin for a year.
- I once won a competition in a magazine where the prize was £1000 of shoes from Office. Needless to say, I’ve got a lot of shoes!
- When I was a kid, I saw Michael Jackson during a family holiday to Disneyland Paris. He was riding on Thunder Mountain with his entourage, over and over.
- One of the most surreal moments of my life was sitting in KFC in Cairo eating a chicken burger and looking out at the pyramids just across the road.
- When I was younger I used to spend a lot of time horse riding. My family bought a horse when I was about twelve and it turned out that she was pregnant, although no one – not even the vet – spotted it, so one day we went to the stables and boom, two horses!
- I have a thing about ventriloquist dummies. They freak me out and I can’t even look at them. There’s no way you would ever get me to watch a Chucky film.
- My first ‘proper’ job was working at a theatre, where I met quite a few actors at press launches, interviews and parties. My job also involved dressing up in bizarre costumes to promote some of the shows, including the panto dragon, alongside Chico from The X Factor.
- Following on from number seven, I once drove around town in the passenger seat of the Rocky Hearse to advertise The Rocky Horror Show.
- I met a hobbit in Dundee.
- At college, I took Theatre Studies and once played the priest in a production of Andorra by Max Frisch. We borrowed an actual cassock and dog collar from a local clergyman to use as my costume. During rehearsals, a few of us (in full costume) went to grab some tea from the local fish and chip shop.
So, I guess now you know me (and my history of dressing up) a little bit better!

Oops, Cairo!

The pyramids is definitely a surreal experience, not at all how you expect it to be. There’s a British show called An Idiot Abroad that captures it really well if you ever get chance to watch it!

Ah! Those are some awesome adventures you’ve had 🙂 The sharing/not sharing dilemma is always an interesting one amongst bloggers. I’ve seen some who barely share anything and it feels distant, and those who share too much, which just makes me feel like I’m reading the LiveJournal of a thirteen year old girl. Balance is good.

Yep balance is the best! It’s nice to feel like you know the blogger, but it’s good to keep some things private too.
