One of my resolutions this year was to read a minimum of 50 books and to keep myself accountable by making a record of what those books were.
Although I do have a Goodreads account, I’ve never quite started using it properly; I might get round to it eventually!
In the meantime, to keep track of what I’ve been reading, each month I’m going to share a short recap.
I actually managed to make a decent start to the year, no doubt helped by my recent addiction to the Kindle app. My biggest surprise of the month was probably a little book called The Memory Game, by Sharon Sant, which I downloaded as a freebie on a whim after seeing it recommended on Twitter. It’s a moving tale of a teenage boy killed in an accident who finds himself unable to move on from his death.
I also enjoyed the other books I read this month, the only disappointment being The Fractured Man, which is beautifully written, but I’m afraid I just couldn’t get into it, so I put it to one side.
Here’s the list in full, including affiliate links, so if you do click through and buy anything I make a tiny commission, but it doesn’t cost you anything extra.
January’s reads:
- Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn
- The Last Kings of Sark, by Rose Rankin-Gee
- The Sleep Room, by F.R. Tallis – read my review here
- The Fractured Man, by Juliet Conlin*
- The Memory Game, by Sharon Sant
- Black Skies, by Arnaldur Indridason
I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading this month, especially if you’ve got any recommendations to share!
Disclaimer: Please note that I was provided with review copies of The Last Kings of Sark, The Sleep Room, and The Fractured Man from the Amazon Vine programme.
*Didn’t finish it, I’m afraid!

A great collection of books and a fantastic start to your challenge… I’m intrigued to know what you thought of Gone Girl and I will add The Memory Game to my to-read list. Sounds interesting!

I was surprised by The Memory Game, it’s only short but the ending is really moving. I’m planning to write something about Gone Girl; I thought it was compelling and clever, but by the end it did make uncomfortable reading. I can see why it has received so much attention and I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it.

Loved your book choices, can I ask how you manage to read so many books. I love books but and pretty slow at getting through them so any tips would be most welcome:-)

I’m not sure I have tips as such, Pauline, I’ve been quite lucky this month that most of the books I read were really good so I couldn’t wait to get through them. If I don’t find a book very engaging it can take me ages! But the one thing that has helped, was to download the Kindle app on my phone; it means I can quickly read a few pages anywhere if I’m not busy and it makes me a faster reader.
