This month has been pretty poor when it comes to reading.
I’ve only managed to read three books, although one was the most recent instalment in the Song of Ice and Fire series, which is fairy hefty.
After starting a new job recently, I’ve been focusing on settling in and haven’t had as much time to read as before. But I’ve realised that I was fortunate to be able to get through so many books in the first four months of the year and I’ll have to step things up if I’m going to keep up my reading progress.
There’s not much to say in terms of the novels this month. The second part of A Dance with Dragons was good, but thanks to some big cliffhangers I’m now left hanging until the next book comes out and I don’t know quite when that will be!
The other two novels are part of a crime series by Scottish writer James Oswald, which I won in a Twitter competition a few months back. I enjoyed them, although the pace was more of a slow burn compared to some of the other crime fiction I’ve read this year. The most interesting and unique element was definitely the slight supernatural twist to each story, which added an extra dimension to the usual murder mystery.
So, here’s the (short) list in full. As usual it includes affiliate links.
May’s reads
- A Dance With Dragons: Part 2 After the Feast (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 5), by George RR Martin
- Natural Causes: Inspector McLean Novel 1 (Inspector Mclean Mystery 1), by James Oswald
- The Book of Souls (Inspector Mclean Mystery 2), by James Oswald
Disclaimer: I received won copies of The Book of Souls and Natural Causes in a Twitter competition, no review was required.

Oh, I really enjoyed The Book of Souls and Natural Causes… Though I accidentally read them backwards xD

Think I liked Natural Causes the best, it was pretty dark! I’ve got book three too so I’m going to read that soon.
