I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what life was like before I had a blog, and I’m not sure I can remember.
Anyone who runs their own blog will know how quickly it can take over your life. The more you post, the more you want to post. When the ideas are flowing and things are going well, all you want to do is work on your blog.
Then there are the down days, when you’re tired and the inspiration has dried up. You’re burned out from the constant cycle of social media and keeping up, not only with your own posting schedule, but also all the other blogs you want to read.
Managing this website takes up quite a lot of my time each week, yet I can’t imagine what I’d do with all those spare hours if the blog didn’t exist. Even when I’m exhausted and my brain needs a rest, it still feels like an achievement to create something new.
Before I started writing here, I was planning my wedding, so I spent endless hours online researching, organising and just generally looking at all the pretty stuff.
But before that?
No idea.
I’m sure I spent a lot of time doing all the usual stuff: reading, writing, watching television. I probably spent a bit more time with my husband than I do now (sorry). But it never felt like I had endless free time, which makes it all the more satisfying to realise that I’ve managed to make a space in my life for writing online.
Having a blog can be all-consuming, but it’s worth it in so many ways.

I’m glad you put in the time – I always appreciate how well thought out your posts are! They always seem to have taken some careful thought, and that makes them enjoyable to read!
