It’s almost two-and-a-half years since I got married, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about one of my favourite parts of our wedding: the photo booth.
A few months ago, StressFreePrint got in touch to ask whether I’d like to create a print project with them. I’d been circling around the idea of creating some kind of motivational quote poster, when I saw this tutorial on A Beautiful Mess. It seemed the perfect way to make use of our photo booth pictures and make them a feature in our new house.
I didn’t actually follow Emma’s tutorial to create this poster; instead I cropped all the original images and simply popped them into a template I created in InDesign. Easy!
But looking through the images again has reminded me why booking a photo booth was one of the best decisions I made for the wedding.
It brings people together
When I look back through the pictures from our photo booth, it’s amazing how many capture guests who hadn’t met previously, decked out in their comedy props, laughing and pulling faces for the camera.
I remember running around my reception, totally over-excited, grabbing anyone I could and dragging them off for photos. Even my in-laws took a turn!
It’s a lot of fun
Weddings can be traditional affairs and often people enjoy something a bit different, especially once they’ve had a few drinks.
The giant box of props gave them an excuse to be as silly as possible and people went into the photo booth again and again.
It gives you a second – more informal – set of photos
For many people, the photographs are one of the most important things about their wedding. After all, they’re going to be the thing that you keep for the rest of your life so that you can remember the details of the day.
Having a photo booth meant that we got an extra set of pictures – in a completely different style. Our wedding photographers took a lot of candid, reportage style shots of the guests enjoying themselves, chatting and dancing, but the photo booth shots are completely different.
Plus, they’re available straight away. The booth we used produced two sets of prints each time: one for the guests to keep and one for them to add to a special guest book, along with a message. The company uploaded all the images to Facebook the next day and scrolling through my news feed the day after our wedding to see so many of our friends sharing their pictures or using them in their profiles made me ridiculously happy.
It makes the wedding memorable for you and your guests
After our wedding, so many of our friends commented on the photo booth and how much they enjoyed it.
I still sometimes visit friends now and catch sight of a photo booth picture from our wedding tacked up on the fridge or somewhere in the house.
It creates a talking point
When we got married, photo booths were still a fairly new concept, so it was a novelty to most of the guests.
An as so many of them shared their pictures on Facebook, their friends often commented about how much fun they were and asked where the shots had been taken.
We still laugh about one of our more drunken friends who decided it would be a good idea to strip off in the photo booth. Thankfully the camera didn’t capture that particular moment!
Thanks to StressFreePrint for making this post possible. Our photo booth was hired from the fabulous Booth Revolution.
