As the year is coming to an end, I thought I’d take a quick look back at some of the most read things I’ve written this year.
It’s turned out to be a very travel focused few months…
1. An Afternoon on the Edge of England
One of the very few guest posts I’ve shared here, this article is the most viewed in the history of the blog. Written by a visiting author and football fan, it explores my hometown of Middlesbrough through an outsider’s eyes and was hugely popular on social media, even making it into the local paper.
2. Exploring the Forbidden Corner: In Pictures
A photo post from our visit to one of the most popular attractions in North Yorkshire, The Forbidden Corner, which is a stunning country garden full of mystery and surprises for all the family.
3. New York City at Night: In Pictures
This post features a selection of night-time images taken on our trip to New York, this time last year.
4. The Best View in New York: Empire State Building vs. Top of the Rock
Another post inspired by our New York adventures – this one debates which of the two tourist attractions offers the best view of the city.
5. Wandering the Venice Streets: In Pictures
A look back at our trip to the gorgeous Italian city, complete with plenty of photographs of charming buildings and quiet canals.
6. Poetry, Pints and Programmes
Another guest post about tourism and Middlesbrough, by a man who is fast becoming an advocate for the town.
7. How to Use a Kindle to Edit Your Book
One of the most useful writerly things I learned this year was that I could add my manuscript to my Kindle and read it like a real book. This article shows you how to do the same.
8. A Second Stop in Middlesbrough Station
The third of this year’s guest posts of the charms of my hometown, by author Paul Breen.
9. Harpa, Reykjavik: In Pictures
A throwback post to my time in Iceland, featuring one of Reykjavik’s most striking buildings.
10. 10 Reasons to Love Living in North East England
Need I say any more?

I hadn’t seen your post on the Forbidden Corner, but it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a while, so I’ll be sure to check that out!
Amy Lord says
Definitely recommend it, Laura – it’s such a fun and unexpected place!
