February has been another busy month, but there have definitely been some great moments.
1. Deciding to get a puppy
The biggest thing that happened this month was that after years of talking about it, we finally decided to get a puppy.
We’re both dog lovers, but husband is the driving force behind the decision. He had dogs growing up and has wanted a pet for a long time. I’ve been reluctant, because I’ve worried about the mess and the extra responsibility.
But now that we’re in our own house, rather than the one we rented for many years, we’re in a position to get our own dog. I’m half excited and half nervous to see how it will go, as I’ve got a lot to learn about training a dog, but I think it will be worth it for the extra love it will bring into our lives.
Expect lots of photos!
2. Lots of theatre
I started a new job in November, which is in the arts industry. That’s where I began my career after university, but I moved on to other things due to a lack of opportunity in my area.
Now I’m back and this month I’ve been fortunate enough to go and see several new plays, including a dress rehearsal and work that’s still in the early stages of development.
Spending time in the theatre and talking with artists has made me think about my own creativity in another way, and makes me realise I do need to make the effort to progress my novel.
3. A night in a luxury hotel
This month I was invited down to the coast to review the lovely Ox Pasture Hall Hotel near Scarborough. I took my husband and we had an incredibly relaxing evening eating delicious food and just enjoying each other’s company.
Even getting away from home for one night can make such a difference to my sense of wellbeing. I’m prone to feeling that I’ve wasted my weekend, so a trip like this is a great way to feel like I’ve had a break, without needing to take any time off work or travel too far.
4. Feeling more positive about work
Since Christmas, my job has been intense and, at times, exhausting. But the last couple of weeks I’ve felt like things have clicked a bit more. I’ve sat down on Friday night after a hectic week and thought: you know what, it’s been a good week.
Before that I let my to-do list stress me out a little too much. I’ll never completely let go of that, because it’s the type of person I am, but it’s nice to feel a little more in control. Touch wood.
5. Hart of Dixie
One of my favourite TV shows of the last few years has been Hart of Dixie, starring Rachel Bilson as a New York doctor who ends up working in a small town in Alabama and having all kinds of romantic dramas. It’s a fun, light-hearted and slightly cheesy show, but it never fails to make me smile.
Unfortunately, after series two ended a couple of years ago, it didn’t get picked up in the UK and I hadn’t seen the final two seasons. But I got series three on DVD for Christmas, and after discovering that one of my workmates was also a fan, I decided to watch it.
I’ve pretty much mainlined Bluebell, getting through the whole series in just over a week. And I love it as much as ever.
If you want to find something upbeat to watch after a stressful day at work, I recommend Hart of Dixie. It’s ridiculously cute and sweet!
So that’s a few of the highlights from the last month. What have been the high points of your February?

It makes me weirdly happy that, in the United Kingdom, thousands of miles across an ocean, you’re watching a show that not only takes place in my country, but in the state I’m currently living in. 🙂

Ha, glad to hear it! No idea if it represents reality at all, but it is a fun show to watch!
