March has been full of work, nights out and long weekends. It’s also been full of excitement as we get ready for our new puppy’s arrival and a few blog issues that I’ve been working hard to resolve.
Some of my favourite moments this month have been:
1. A city break in Riga
The high point of the month has definitely been our first trip abroad this year, when we spent a long weekend in the Latvian capital city, Riga.
It’s a lovely city to explore on foot, with a beautiful Old Town full of historic buildings and fashionable restaurants and cafes. We definitely plan to return and see more of the city, hopefully in the summer when the parks and gardens are in full bloom.
2. Long weekends
This month I’ve had two four days weekends. The first was for our trip to Riga, which gave me the chance to relax and enjoy what felt like a real break away from work. I came back to the office rested and ready to get back to work.
Unfortunately the Easter weekend didn’t have quite the same effect – I enjoyed the break, but I ended up more tired than I started and craving a longer holiday!
3. Puppy pictures
We went to meet our soon-to-be puppy for the second time this month and were amazed at how much she’s grown.
Plus, she has the cutest face you’ve ever seen and I’ve taken every opportunity to wave her picture under people’s noses and demand they agree – just like any proud parent!
4. A blog refresh
If you’ve visited this website before, you might have noticed that it’s looking a bit different. Thanks to a few technical problems over Easter – which I’ll write about more next week – I decided to give the blog a makeover.
There are still a few tweaks to make but I’m feeling good about the new look and it’s given me a little boost of inspiration that I sorely needed.
5. Home improvements
You know you’re getting older when you get excited about things like a new fence…
We’ve been doing some work in our garden in anticipation of getting a dog and it’s looking good. The various tree stumps and dead plants have been dug out and the crumbling old fence is hidden behind the new neat one. I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer so we can sit outside and enjoy the garden.
So that’s a few of the highlights from the last month. What have you enjoyed most about March?

We managed a short trip to my wife’s mother’s near Cambridge over Easter. It was much needed as I practically worked 2 weeks solid before.
The clocks went forward which means lighter nights and hopefully better weather.

Definitely ready for the lighter nights!
