How is it already the end of May? I’ve said this over and over again, year after year, but it’s hard to believe that the year is passing by so quickly.
Saying that, May has stretched on a bit and it’s been a tiring month. Still, here are my high points.
1. Dog walking
Now that Dixie has had all her injections we can finally take her out on walks. This has been one of the highlights, not only of the month, but of the year so far. We’re fortunate to live right next to a stretch of green land, which we can access through our back gate, meaning we can take the dog for a long walk without having to go anywhere near a road.
And thanks to the long nights and generally nice weather, it’s been amazing to spend so much time outside, wandering along with my husband and dog, generally just enjoying life.
2. Live music in an old railway shed
Earlier in the month I had a great night out at Tanfield Railway for the Music at Marley Hill event. Now an annual event as part of Museums at Night, the railway shed hosted a gig featuring three amazing local artists: Eva Stone, The Lake Poets, and Hyde & Beast.
Against a backdrop of old steam engines, on a stage lined with fairy lights, the bands played some great songs, many of which had me mesmerised and completely forgetting where I was.
3. A weekend away with friends
I’ve just come back from a busy weekend that actually featured two separate trips away with friends.
First we headed across the country to a wedding of one of husband’s best mates from university, before we came home and I drove straight off to a friend’s hen weekend in York.
It’s been a pretty exhausting weekend and I’ve slept in four different beds, but it’s been great to have a break and catch up with lovely friends, while celebrating their special occasions.
4. You might know something, Jon Snow
Game of Thrones is back, and I’ve been enjoying watching the new series with husband. There have been some big revelations, including the answer to the Jon Snow question that has been keeping us all up at night for months.
Although I’m enjoying the series overall, I have to admit, I’m finding it quite slow. There seems to be more and more time spent on dull storylines where little happens, with a couple of big dramatic moments expected to carry the episode. And it works to an extent, although I would like to see the pace consistently higher.
There are so many storylines to bring to a conclusion; there must be plenty of big things to happen soon.
5. Blogger events
Considering I’ve been blogging almost four years, I’ve never organised a blogger event before. That changed this month, as I set a small event up as part of my day job.
It wasn’t without its challenges, but in the end the event felt like it went well, so I’m putting that one down as a success.
So that’s a few of the highlights from the last month. What have you enjoyed most about May?

I must be one of the few that have never seen Game of Thrones. It’s what they all talk about at work. I’ve sometimes thought about starting to watch but it’s a big task to catch up. For a while all this talk about Jon Snow, I thought they were on about Channel 4 news!

It will be hard to watch now, there are so many spoilers out there to avoid!
