The Victorian seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is just up the road from us, and it’s a lovely place to spend an afternoon strolling on the beach, or wandering along the pier.
Unfortunately for a photo post, I failed to take any pictures of two of the town’s biggest attractions: the Victorian cliff lift and the yarn bombing (I blame the dog!)
The pier has always been a tourist attraction, but it’s become well known in recent years thanks to the mysterious local yarn bombers, who emerge at night to decorate the pier with elaborate knitted figures. They’ve done more for tourism in recent years than anyone!

I really wish I lived near the coast. I hate how landlocked my home is.
I’ve heard of this yarn bombing, saw Warwick Davis do a programme about it on TV.

It has become a phenomenon – there are yarn bombing events and festivals popping up all over the place now!

I was going to ask what “yarn bombing” was–I thought perhaps small explosives filled with yarn?–but then you answered it. I wish you’d been able to get a photo because I’d love to see that! 😉

I’d like to go back just to take some pictures of the knitting – it’s really cute!
