This is a short post because…busy.
It’s only mid-January and my second week back at work post-Christmas, but this year is shaping up to be hard work and because of that, I might have to pull back in this space sometimes.
I’ve been blogging less anyway for the last year or two. I went from posting without fail four times a week to maybe once or twice, if I could manage it.
And I don’t regret that.
But I might need to cut back more. At the moment, this is what my life looks like.
Work: I have a day job, working in marketing and there are a number of big projects and launches happening this year that are bound to require extra hours, commitment and a ton of mental energy.
Promoting book one: I’m still crowdfunding my debut novel – it’s 37% funded at the moment so there’s still a long way to go. Since the campaign launched in October, I’ve been on a constant treadmill of self-promotion, trying to drum up enough support to hit my funding target. I’m a stuck record, but please buy a copy if you can.
Editing book one: Once I hit the magic 100% (fingers crossed), the really hard work starts, because my novel will go to an editor and I’ll be working on rewrites, to potentially tight deadlines.
Writing book two: since last April, I’ve been part of a mentoring scheme for writers where I have started to draft my next novel. I’ve just been chosen to move on to the next stage of the programme, which involves a more intense series of workshops and several mentoring sessions with a literary agent. It’s hugely exciting, but I’ve got masses of work to do between now and the end of April. Not scared at all.
So those are the big projects, the ones that have to take priority. Of course there’s blogging too, not to mention general life stuff – family and friends, exercising, socialising, reading, looking after my dog, housework and laundry and all that other stuff, including taking time out to just stop and rest.
I don’t think there will be as much time for travel or going out this year, if I’m going to get anywhere I’ll need to get my head down and work, hard.
It’s quite intimidating to think about, but exciting too.
Hopefully I’ll have enough left over for regular blog updates, but I really need to make the other things happen first, which I haven’t always done.
Wish me luck!

Wow girl, you are a superhero managing to do all of that! No matter how little or often you post, I’ll still be here reading along. I just wish you all the best with work and your book! xx
