Just a short list this month, but there are some enjoyable and eclectic reads there.
The Moor, by Sam Haysom
On a hiking trip to a remote moor, a group of teenage boys revel in trying to scare each other with ghost stories around the camp fire.
Soon strange things begin to happen. There are noises in the night and one of the boys discovers the remains of a dead rabbit outside his tent.
Then the boys begin to disappear.
But they aren’t the only ones to go missing on the moor, a place with a dark secret more awful than anyone could have imagined.
This debut horror novel is full of atmosphere and surprising twists that will keep you turning the pages – just don’t read it on a camping trip!

Ebolowa, by Simon Miller
After being hired to look into the supposedly accidental death of a young photojournalist, Chicago private eye Harry Kaplan travels to Cameroon to investigate. There he finds himself caught in a web of violence and intrigue as he revives a mystery that was long buried.
Based on a true story, Ebolowa is an intelligent and cinematic thriller set against the historical and political backdrop of Cameroon as it emerged from French colonial rule and became an independent nation.
Harry Kaplan is a classic hardboiled hero, someone who isn’t afraid to pursue ruthless gangsters or dig around in a case involving government operatives. This approach might land him trouble, but it also gets results. With a troubled past not quite behind him, Harry is a character who will doggedly pursue the truth and take the reader on that journey with him.
